Our Basic Sign Language Summer Camp introduces campers to American Sign Language (ASL) through games, hands‑on activities, storytelling, and creative expression. Campers will learn everyday signs, build confidence communicating in new ways, and develop a deeper appreciation for Deaf culture—all in a supportive, energetic environment. Perfect for beginners and curious learners alike, this camp turns learning into an adventure.
Creative Design and Robotics Jr( Ages 6-11)
Ages: 6 - 11
Explore, play, and learn with robots! This beginner-friendly class uses a wide variety of fun, hands-on activities to introduce young engineers to the world of robotics. Through unique challenges, kids will stretch their problem-solving muscles to create innovative solutions to simple robotics problems. Explore concepts from the basics of programming robots to more advanced sensors and inputs. Get ready to build, tinker, and explore as you unlock the limitless possibilities of robotics! Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
Advanced Robotics (8-14 Years Old)
Ages: 8 - 14
The robots are here! Take charge of your future by controlling robots to solve unique, creative challenges with your team. Program your robots in the Python coding language using visual and text-based coding tools. Explore the scientific method to observe, plan, test, and modify your robotic approach to problem-solving. No prior experience is required. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
Herpetology (3rd-6th Grade)
Ages: 8 - 13
Campers will team up with the Davidson‑Davie Zoo and Aquarium care team to explore the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians. Through hands‑on activities, interactive lessons, and close encounters with scaly and slimy creatures, students will learn about habitats, adaptations, and conservation. This camp is perfect for curious kids who want to discover the secrets of snakes, lizards, frogs, and turtles while building a deeper appreciation for wildlife.
Archery (4th-9th Grade)
Ages: 9 - 16
Campers step into the exciting world of competitive archery as they learn proper form, safety rules, and beginner training techniques — all with the guidance of Coach Wes. This camp blends skill‑building with plenty of fun, giving young archers the chance to grow their confidence, sharpen their focus, and take their best shot in a supportive, high‑energy environment.
This is an outdoor camp, campers should come prepared with sunscreen for outdoor activities. We will have a cooler stocked with ice, water, and Gatorade to keep everyone hydrated throughout the day. Campers will also have access to air‑conditioned spaces, and tents will be set up to provide plenty of shade when we’re outside.
Young Coders (Ages 6-10)
Ages: 6 - 10
Every child can code! Develop your skills as a young coder by exploring block coding, JavaScript, and Python concepts while making your own playable mini-games. This introductory coding course is designed to get elementary-aged students excited about technology through a series of hands-on and engaging learning challenges. Student-created games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
Make Your First 3D Video Game ( Ages 8-14)
Ages: 8 - 14
In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Projects are only compatible with Windows devices. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
Caricature (2nd-7th Grade)
Ages: 7 - 14
Ready to stretch your creativity as far as a cartoon smile? At our Caricature Summer Camp, young artists dive into the playful world of exaggerated features, bold lines, and big personality. Campers will learn how to capture expressions, highlight quirks, and turn ordinary faces into hilarious, stylized masterpieces.
From sketching friends to creating over‑the‑top self‑portraits, every day is filled with laughter, creativity, and “wow, that really does look like me!” moments. With guidance from skilled instructors, students sharpen their drawing skills while discovering how fun it is to see the world through a caricature artist’s eyes.
This camp proves that art doesn’t have to be serious to be seriously impressive.
*** This camp is located off campus at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville, NC.
On the last day of camp campers will participate in a showcase to show off what they have learned throughout the week from 5:30-7:00PM. More information will be sent home on the first day of camp.
